Sneak peak into authentic Fes

Because of our extremely short time frame in Morocco, we had to make sacrifices when it came to our itinerary and unfortunately, Fes was the city that we had to compromise with the most. We were all so excited to see the blue city of Chefchaouen so decided to dedicate two days there and only a measly 12 hours in Fes, including a night's sleep.

Three day Sahara Desert Tour

Riding a camel through the Sahara Desert at sunset still goes down as the most memorable travel experience I've had thus far. It wasn't just the camel riding and sand dunes that were amazing though, the whole three days leading up to it, the actual journey that we took to the Sahara, was equally as incredible.

Two Days in Lively Marrakech

Ahh Marrakech... How do I even begin to describe this incredible city? It's not often that I get culture shock. I've visited 33 countries now and I've only experienced culture shock less than a handful of times. When I arrived in Marrakech, though, culture shock hit me like a speeding train. Never had I ever been thrown into such an unfamiliar environment and felt so totally out of my comfort zone before. It was thrilling, exhilarating and one huge sensory overload from the minute we stepped foot off the plane. I was instantly mesmerised and I knew that this was the beginning of a hard and fast love affair.

Copenhagen in two days

A thousand apologies for being so ridiculously slack with my blog over the past few months! I don't have a good excuse for my absence really. I've just felt uninspired, I have had absolutely no desire or motivation to write and it's a shame cause I feel like I'm beginning to forget all of my travel memories, and that's only making me want to blog less and less... I've also been ridiculously busy, especially since coming back from Southeast Asia. In between university, I've been doing applications and extracurriculars and a bunch of other stuff and basically just 'adulting' like crazy. Anyway enough about my mundane life, time to rewind to a better time and place for me, Copenhagen.

Me, Myself and Madrid

Blue skies over Plaza Mayor in Madrid
Plaza Mayor
Madrid was the first city that I was visiting completely on my own. Well, almost completely alone. I had a friend, Yi Yi, who was on exchange in Madrid and my main reason for visiting the Spanish capital was so I could see her again because I only usually see her once a year anyway (She's now based in Abu Dhabi).

Although I was going to Madrid to visit Yi Yi, she had classes pretty much all day for most of the time that I was there so that left me to explore the city all on my lonesome during the long summer days. As Yi Yi was living with a host family, she wasn't able to host me and I was set to couch surf with some of her friends who I had never met but had been promised were super friendly. It's the closest that I have ever gotten to travelling alone and as a result, Madrid is a city that will always be close to my heart.

I was lucky enough to be greeted by Yi Yi at the airport and it was so nice being reunited with her after almost a year! Nothing tops the feeling of seeing friends overseas and this was no different. Madrid ended up being one of my favourite trips during my whole 7 months away from home.

Black squid ink paella arros negre in Madrid
Black Paella
We spent our first afternoon wandering around the city centre but it quickly started raining so we sought shelter in a nearby bar, deciding to grab dinner while we waited out the downpour. I had been so excited about visiting Madrid not only because I got to see Yi Yi again, but also because I would be reunited with Spanish food! Paella is one of my favourite dishes but instead of getting a traditional seafood paella, Yi Yi suggested that we try out the black paella which is actually made with squid ink! I was really worried that my teeth would be stained black after our meal but if anything, my teeth were whiter than they were before. We also ordered patatas bravas, another favourite of mine, and tortilla which Yi Yi introduced to me as one of her favourites.

French Riviera: Nice & Monaco

Nice was the last stop during my three and a half week escapade throughout Europe during Easter break. Yes, I've finally finished all my posts from my trip back during Easter! Jeez I'm a little behind... I will be honest. I struggled quite a bit to write this post so I can only imagine how difficult the ones from the end of my trip are going to be. I really want to capture all of my memories though so I have something to read back one day. I'm definitely trying my best. Also, yes, there was sensor dust in my camera and no, I did not realise until I got home to Australia... Way to ruin all of your travel snaps Tash...

Spending 6 hours in Zürich

With less than a day to spend in Zürich, we were really pushed for time to explore the city. However, Zürich was the perfect place to spend only 6 hours in because not only was that enough time to explore the main parts of pristine and almost-too-clean city, it also meant not forking out a fortune for accommodation or extra meals in the notoriously expensive country of Switzerland!

Serenity in Santorini

Sunset in Fira
I apologise for uploading this post so late. This is my SECOND time writing this post... I stayed up till 5am one night writing up my Santorini post and was feeling really happy with it but was struck with the horrifying realisation the next day that Blogger had not saved it. It was gone. It no longer existed. I had lost my entire blog post. I'm definitely not going to be able to recreate it but I've tried my best to rewrite it.

Istanbul is Bliss

Hagia Sophia
Istanbul is somewhere that has been on my bucket list for a while now so I was super excited for this leg of the trip! The city definitely didn't disappoint. I fell truly, madly and deeply in love with Istanbul straight away, hard and fast. I spent every day there in a state of complete and utter happiness and it pained me to have to part ways with such a spectacular city. Even now that I have returned home from my time abroad, Istanbul is always one of the places that I state as my absolute favourite when asked by family and friends (Prague and Morocco were my other faves).

A day in Budapest

St Stephen's Basilica
This post is going to be a short one (I bet you're all relieved). When visiting Budapest back in March, we were only there for a day and I spent half of that day almost immobile and doubled over in pain so my memory of the city is a little bit hazy.

Berlin: A quasi home away from home?

The Reichstag
One of our friends visited Berlin just days before we did and didn't leave with the best impression of it. She had shared with us her borderline dislike of the city, warning us that there was nothing to do or see and that it was, well, boring. I did take these comments into consideration but was, however, really looking forward to this leg of our trip because it was our first destination outside of the UK.

St. Patrick's Day in Belfast

My upcoming exam has again motivated me to write another blog post. I've reached the point where I want to do anything but study. Anything. Literally anything.
I apologise in advance for the rushed and less than spectacular post. I'm going to try my best to publish posts about everywhere that I have visited up until this point before I leave for my six-week long backpacking trip in July with my friends from home. Once I'm off, I probably won't be able to update my blog at all and when I return, I'll have a whole new list of destinations to write about...

Seeing Scotland: Edinburgh and Glasgow

I apologise for how slack I have been with my blog lately! I've been really preoccupied with my upcoming exams and just trying to generally enjoy my last couple of months at Warwick before this chapter of my life comes to an end. I've got less than a month now! In my procrastination, however, I've finally found a sliver of motivation to update my blog and in true Tash fashion, this motivation came the night before my exam. It's been exactly two months since I was actually in Scotland and I'm not sure exactly how much I remember of it but here goes...

Discovering the Beauty of Barcelona

Views of Barcelona from Park Guell

The weekend I went to Barcelona was the weekend that I was supposed to finally see The Black Keys live. I had been looking forward to this gig for months! I bought the tickets back in August last year, before I even knew if I was going to be accepted to do exchange at Warwick or not. As my luck would have it, their show was cancelled due to Patrick Carney being injured. To drown my sorrows, I decided to spontaneously book a trip to Barcelona instead.

A Blissful Weekend in Dublin

Dublin is one of the closer places that I have visited so far so this upcoming trip was always a little lost in my mind, overshadowed by the thrill of my other trips such as Lisbon, Amsterdam and Barcelona. As the date neared, though, I did start to get really excited. I was heading off with a different group of people this time so that alone was pretty exciting.

Lisbon: Love at First Sight

The views over Lisbon from the viewpoint Miradouro Da Graca
The view of Lisbon from Miradouro Da Graca
I had absolutely no idea what to expect when coming to Lisbon. I didn't know anything about the city, all I knew was that Lisbon is the capital of Portugal. My decision to go to Lisbon was a spontaneous (and pricey) one yet I don't regret it a single bit. Although I had no idea what to expect from Lisbon, it delivered way more than I could have ever hoped for.

Brussels: The Land of Waffles, Chocolate, Fries and Beer

Brussels Town Hall in Grand Place

I apologise for bombarding my blog with posts this week! I hope I'm not being too annoying. I don't really have a posting schedule and my posts are going to be really sporadic depending on whether I've been somewhere or done something blog worthy.

My First Trip to London: Day 2

Waking up at 9am to check out of our hostel felt like hell. The hostel bed was heaven compared to the crappy mattress I have in my Warwick dorm room so I was not happy to part with it. We stayed at SafeStay Elephant & Castle, taking up two whole 8 person dorm rooms and we were pleasantly surprised with how nice the place was! Despite the rooms being extremely purple, the hostel was very clean and the beds were so comfortable. I would definitely go back and stay there next time.
