The Countdown Begins

It is officially December and I am officially leaving for the UK this month. Still not sure how this year managed to fly by so fast..

I've already begun the process of saying goodbye to some of my friends and it's breaking my heart that it will be seven or eight months before I see them again. It's going to be really tough living away from all of my loved ones, I just hope people don't forget me while I'm gone! I don't think it has really hit me yet how long seven months really is.

Flights booked, no turning back now

Maybe it's because it's currently 2.30am on the second day of exam period, peak procrastination time, but I thought it would be the perfect time for me to type up a blog post. I suck.

I finally booked my flights to England today. I'll be flying out of Melbourne at 7pm on the 31st on December and will land in Birmingham on the 1st of January at 11.50am. It sucks that I'm gonna miss celebrating New Years here in Melbourne and I won't get to stay in Australia for my birthday either but the difference in flight prices really made it impossible for me to leave any later. The price jumps up by about $900 if I was to leave even just one day later... That's like my groceries for three  or four months...

Glastonbury 2015

Things have been so crazy lately. 2015 is fast approaching now and I feel like I'm completely unprepared for my exchange. There's so much that I need to organise and prepare that I haven't gotten around to yet, I don't even have my flights booked! It all just feels like it's coming up so fast now and I feel like I don't have time to do anything! I don't have flights, I don't have a visa, I haven't heard back about on-campus accommodation, my mid-year travel plans haven't been confirmed and I have no idea how I'm going to tackle packing for seven months away. I'm in the process of enrolling into my exchange units and have organised everything with my course advisor so at least that's one thing sorted.

Unconditional Acceptance into The University of Warwick

This whole exchange journey has never really hit me. The fact that so much planning went into it and that up until this point nothing had been confirmed, I didn't really feel like I was actually going on exchange. Obviously, in my mind I knew it was a happening thing but for some reason, it just didn't feel like it was. The whole process has been so dragged out and tedious that it feels like something I've just been doing for ages now especially because I did plan to apply for exchange this semester instead of next and was halfway applying last semester.

And so the adventure begins...

I'm not really sure how to start this post. I've never really been the type to commit to writing a blog or diary of any sort. I've always loved the idea of keeping a diary or journal but I'll only ever use it for a couple of days max before I forget about it... I'm going to try really hard to keep this updated though because it would be so good to look back on one day and I know I'll regret it if I don't keep a record of everything I experience.

I feel like this is an appropriate time to make my first blog post. I received an email at about 3am this morning from the University of Warwick congratulating me for being nominated by Monash to apply to study there. My friend Darnesh was nominated as well! I'll be honest, I'm pretty shocked. I knew that I had high enough grades to apply but there was always that sliver of fear in the back of my mind that things wouldn't go to plan. I was really worried that maybe a ton of people had applied for Warwick as well and that I wouldn't make the cut. It really wouldn't have been the end of the world if I hadn't gotten in. I wouldn't have minded applying for the University of Sussex, studying in Brighton would be awesome, but the idea of having to redo my application and going through the process of finding units again makes me queasy...
